Every week except Christmas and New year, Play Ranger Sessions will run in 11 locations across Somerset - Play RangerSessions is a service funded by Sedgemoor, West Somerset, Mendip and Taunton Deane District Councils with Big Lottery money. The new service to Somerset will work in public spaces within communities, to enable children to play freely outdoors, encouraging them to use the sessions in the way that they choose, which might include den building, sports, nature trails and adventurous play. The Children’s charity Barnardo’s South West manages the Play Ranger service, and all project workers are trained and police checked. Play Rangers work with children over the age of 5 in their leisure time and will be found in these areas every week.

Play Ranger Sessions operate an ‘open access’ policy which means that children are free to come and go as they please. Adults are there to assist with games and resources they are not supervising or being responsible for the children and young people that attend. There is no charge and no registration is required and therefore parents are still responsible for their children whilst they are at Play Ranger Sessions
