Play and Somerset Councils
Play is not a statutory service but it does feed into many of the targets and requirements given to Local Authoritites by Government. These include: Children and Young People (the 5 Every Child Matters Outcomes), Healthy Communities, Health and Education among others. Play Builder
Play builder has brought about £1.1m of funding for new or significantly improved play sapces from 2009 to 2011. The money was granted by DCSF to SCC and is making a huge difference to play spaces across the County. For more details please visit the play builder page.
The Big Lottery Fund Children's Play Programme - Grants for District Councils.
The Play Ranger Service funded through Big Lottery began in October 2008. For full details please go to the Play Ranger page.
The
Big Lottery Fund launched the Children's Play Programme in March
2006. As part of this programme each Local Authority in the Country
was allocated a set amount of funding that could be applied for on
production of a Play Strategy and a portfolio of projects.
With support form Somerset Play Forum each District Council in Somerset has written a Play Strategy and developed projects that offer free, high quality play opportunities to children and young people.
